KITCHENER — On July 2, 2022, security reported a firearm during a physical altercation at the Victoria and Weber encampment. Edwin Finch's eyewitness video shows Waterloo Regional Police officers advancing among tents with weapons drawn behind a shield. Police said the gun report created a high-priority public-safety response. Global News reported that officers located the man identified in the call, found no weapon, released him and recorded no injuries. A serious gun call can justify serious preparation. It should also trigger a serious public after-action account when the operation ends with no weapon and no arrest. Militarized imagery cannot be its own explanation.
